A new study confirms what we’ve been telling ourselves every day: that wine and coffee are good for the body and good for soul. A group of researchers who analyzed stool samples from 1,135 Dutch people found that wine, coffee, tea, yogurt, among other factors, had a positive contribution to the microbial diversity in our gut. What does all this mean? A healthy balance of bacteria in the gut can prevent weight gain and metabolic problems. We already know that there are health benefits to drinking coffee and alcohol (in moderation), but to have another study confirm that this is truly the case is just awesome.

One of the authors from the study, which was published in Science, said that it was the first to “systematically assess such a broad range of host and environmental factors in relation to gut microbiome.” Well, we will happily drink to that and to our gut!
