It’s been a long journey to the finish line for Adrianne Haslet-Davis. After losing her lower left leg in the Boston Marathon bombings, Adrianne has spent the last three years focused on becoming her strongest self — inside and out — by adopting a never-give-up attitude. That spirit showed itself again today. After starting her race at 8:50 a.m., Adrianne crossed the finish line around 7:15 p.m. — almost 11 hours later.
Shortly after 12 p.m. and around mile 15, Adrianne shared on Twitter that she was experiencing leg pain. At this day went on, race officals were unsure if she’d continue, but it turns out that nothing was going to keep Adrianne from finishing. After taking some time with her “pit crew” to address the swelling, she forged on. Adrianne even made a lasting impression on President Obama, who sent her a special message on Twitter upon completing the course: “Thank you, Adrianne, for being Boston Strong. Terror and bombs can’t beat us. We carry on. We finish the race!”
